I was skeptical before I bought this but it actually does give you over 8 hours of juice! The issue is, however, you have to change your battery setting to "POWER SAVER".

On "HP Recommended" setting, it should give you 3-4 hours....MAYBE 5-6 hours IF YOU'RE LUCKY!!! Great battery...and worth the money. Hopefully this battery lasts like this for a long time. Remember if you're going to leave your computer plugged in just take out the battery...it's bad to overcharge your batteries. If you're not going to use your battery...take it out but keep it at 30-50% charged and store it somewhere cool. This will help prolong the life of your battery.

Also, when you get your new battery...charge it up to 100% (the battery indicator button on the bottom of this HP MU09 battery will let you know when it's full)....then turn on the computer.

Okay, so I bought an open box laptop from bestbuy without ac adapter and battery. Researched batteries for a week and settled on this guy. Follow the proper charging process for it full charge once it arrived (8+ hrs) and then drain it once a month; meaning work on it full time until 5 or 10% is left then turn off laptop, and charge for 6 to 8 hours. My battery is lasting 5 to 9 hours by doing this. Had it four months now and not an issue at all. Additionally, the design of the battery elevates the laptop off the table to give a good angle for typing and air flow circulation.

Yes, it's original HP made in China, 4 cell,  HSTNN-LB61 - fits hp pavilion 17-fxxx series and doubtless all the others it's advertised for. Pleasant upgrade, reads about 44 watt hours full, and so added a much-needed extra hour run time over the original in my 17 inch laptop application. Low rate of self discharge.

Hi All,

one year back I bought a DELL XPS 14 (L421x)Laptop with Windows 8. I had question about the quickly deteriorating battery.

I have installed Linux on my machine and was observing the battery status. In the fields "Energy when full" it is showing as 45W, while the design energy is 69W.

What is worrying me is, this number is reducing rapidly! (2 days back, it was 65.8W)

I also verified this by booting into Windows and launching the powercfg --energy command and checking the report it generated. The "Last full charge capacity" is exactly same as what was shown on Linux.

Wonder if this is actually a Battery problem or some kind of BIOS/SW issue. Is anyone facing the same problem?

All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance will degrade. The battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, batteries lose some charge capacity (battery health). This means that a battery can show a charged status, but maintain a reduced charge capacity. 

You may check the battery health in BIOS. Please follow the steps below:

• Restart / Power on your computer.
• At the Dell logo appears, tap <F2> until the message Entering Setup appears.
• Scroll to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
• Look under battery health, it should say ‘This battery is performing normally’. If there is any other message, it could mean that the battery is faulty and needs replacement.

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist further.

So far so good, battery came mostly charged and after my top was showing one cycle. Well packaged and as per original to look at. Manufactured by SMP which I believe is SONY and understand they manufacture some batteries for Apple although my original battery was made by DP. Fits a little loose

Battery was delivered on time, looks identical to original. It is a bit loose in its moorings and the connection to the computer would be lost and down went the computer. I took a bit of wide rubber band and jammed it into the flange opposite the connector, now it works great. I get a max of around 4 hours on this battery on my Macbook. It is certainly a bargain compared to the price of an OEM battery at $199.00
