Please completely power OFF the computer. Insert a paperclip into the hole and press for four seconds to reset the computer (simulates removing and reinstalling the battery). The battery reset pin hole would have battery symbol near the hole.

You may also check the BIOS version of your computer and check if the latest updates are installed.

Try this first: shut down your laptop, remove the battery, hold the power button for 20-sec, see if this simple solution makes any difference. This will reset all your power management unit settings including all your battery settings. If this doesn't solve your problem, your battery is dead, you need to buy a new battery.

Did you check to make sure you have the latest bios installed for your machine? There have been reports of sometimes intermittant notebook battery charging problems related to earliest bios releases.  Also suggest running Acer's online hardware detection utility to make sure you don't have any driver issues affecting battery charging;
