The AC adapter currently connected is not supported. System will continue on battery

Question:
my M17x used for 2 years and for some reason when I plug in the AC adapter it often says plugged in not charging.  I have to unplug it then plug it in several times before it decides to begin charging again.
I had the following error when I plugged it in my computer  (alienware  M17x R2)
"Th AC adapter currently connected is not supported. System will continue on battery. "
On rebooting the computer, it came up with the following  message
"The AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match power available.
Please connect a Dell 180w AC adapter or greater for best sytem performance "
Despite altering the windows power settings the computer still runs below speed. From my research this is due to the power adapter settings being hard coded and are unable to be altered.

I have also been having this problem with my m17xr2. (my laptop adapter information: GA240PE1-00/Y044M/ADP-240AB B laptop ac adapter, DELL 19.5V 240W adapters ,Input Voltage: 120V-240V 50/60hz,Output Voltage: 19.5V,Output Current: 12.3A (240W),Connector: 7.4mm*5.0mm)
I am a software programmer and spent a couple of hours looking into this problem.

I believe i have found the solution for this problem. I called Alienware tech support and spoke to a manager and they said they had found a solution and that was to flash the bios two or three times.

Can anyone that is still having this problem please try this solution and let me know if it works?..Thanks EVA
This did not work for me. Although, i did some more research and it appears this is a windows software problem.
I found this solution and it appears to be working. I have shut down the computer and restarted several times and i can remove the ac adapter and plug it back in and it charges now. Hope this helps...Mike
1. close laptop and remove battery (while still on).
2. open lid and remove AC adapter (while still on, will power off system)
3. close lid and connect battery
4.  open lid, connect AC adapter, and power on.

The AC adapter currently connected is not supported. System will continue on battery

Hello,
I received Alienware M18X laptop ac adapter(GA240PE1-00) today and when I plugged it in my computer  (alienware m18x R1) had the following error:
"The AC adapter currently connected is not supported. System will continue on battery. "
On rebooting the computer, it came up with the following  message
"The AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.

Well I have updated the BIOS and that will fix the problem but only temporarily... when the problem returns, reflash the BIOS and it is fixed again.... Function F2 makes no difference. The other tricks that have worked for other people, did not work for me...
But I have found another temporary solution... better than reflashing the BIOS every time it happens... I reach under the notebook, slightly remove the battery (while plugged in) and push it right back in... the battery will instantly start charging again.

Note : 1. 10.8V and 11.1V are compatible, they are in common use.
2. 14.4V and 14.8V are compatible, they are in common use.
3. The 10.8V(=11.1V) and 14.4V(=14.8V) are the different voltages, they are not compatible,

please choose the right battery(Voltage) for your laptop.

the battery starts charging when the charge remaining in the battery drops below 95%.This prevents the battery from charging frequently; Miniminzing the recharge cycles helps prolong battery life

Why does my notebook battery with charge above 95% show it is not charging in Windows even though the AC adapter is connected?

According to the G750JZ user manual it is normal as in the screenshot below.
For these newer models once the battery charge reaches 100%, the battery will drain below 95% before it starts charging again even while plugged into the AC adapter.
Older notebook models may not follow this behavior and keep the battery charge at 100% while plugged in.

Leaving out the battery is just very inconvenient especially if someone accidentally bumps out the power cord from the wall or yanks it from the laptop

Using the g750 without the battery ?

1.Leaving out the battery is just very inconvenient especially if someone accidentally bumps out the power cord from the wall or yanks it from the laptop;

2.it is not okay to use the laptop with the battery removed and plugged to the outlet ,as it  will overheated which will damaged the motherboard when charging ,we recommend prepared two battery packs for ASUS G750 series gaming and working on journey;

i am thinking about purchasing this laptop for use at work maybe some light gaming but more to watch movies has anyone had any battery issues with the laptop ?how long is the battery life  ?

I have had mine for several months now and have absolutely no issues with it. Battery life might not be as good as some would like (4 - 6 hours, depending upon specific use), i have purchased another battery pack(A42-G750) for gaming when at work, and mine stays mostly plugged in at home, so it is really a non-issue for me. I use mine for work, have produced a few videos with it just to compare it with my desktop system, and use it in conjunction with Chromecast to watch high definition movies on my large screen TV. The 17" display on the laptop is very good at watching high definition movies from short distances. There may be better units out there, but I am not disappointed at all with this one; if you want to prepared the correct G750 Series battery pack for working and gaming ,please check this online Canada Battery store:
